Frequently Asked Questions

Does this replace my editor?
No — and we won’t pretend it does. AuthorScrolls is a structural diagnostic: it tells you where your manuscript has problems with pacing, hook strength, plot arc, dialogue, and clarity. A copy editor, line editor, and proofreader are still part of the path to publication. What we save you is the cost of hiring a developmental editor to find problems you could have caught yourself — and the embarrassment of submitting to agents before your opening chapter is working.
What AI models do you use?
We use Claude by Anthropic for deep narrative analysis and GPT-4.1-mini by OpenAI for faster tasks like comparable titles and query letters. All processing happens server-side — your manuscript never touches the browser.
Is my manuscript safe?
Yes. Your manuscripts are stored in encrypted Firebase storage. AI providers (Anthropic/OpenAI) do not store or train on your text. We never share your work with anyone.
Can I cancel anytime?
Absolutely. Cancel from your profile page at any time. No contracts, no hidden fees. Your data is preserved for 30 days after cancellation.
What's the difference between the rules engine and AI?
The rules engine (free) runs locally in your browser — it detects patterns like passive voice, weak verbs, pacing issues, and show-vs-tell. AI features (paid) send excerpts to language models for deeper analysis: narrative critique, comparable titles, beta reader simulation, and more.
What file formats are supported?
.docx (Word), .pdf, and .txt files up to 10MB.
